Many of those who first set eyes on these facilities-as seen in the midst of these presentations-believe it to be vast, centuries old monastery whose Mediterranean architectural motifs, of bell towers, squares and auditorium, pay reverence to some distant Moorish past. The secret behind these seemingly ancient facades lays tribute to the craftsmen of Harrison & Gil who painstakingly applied the same ageing techniques found in its spectacular portfolio of finishes, to tender this grand edifice a unique poise. Conceived and designed in 1999 by Chris Harrison, no other manufacturing facilities look quite like it. Fashioned to capture the sense of mystic and drama so prevalent in the company's wares, the premises offer a truly inspirational and creative home for its hundreds of craftsmen. Housed within the walls of this splendid building, lies another era-the 21st century. It is often claimed that the day at Harrison & Gil starts at dawn, but it actually never really ends, or rather never sleeps. Even in the dead of night, there is activity in our home. The carvers snooze in snug accommodation above their workshops, while in the bowels of the building the generators work continuously, powering the vast steam-heated kilns, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Like freshly baked bread, these enormous wood drying chambers prepare pristine timber, waiting to nourish the workshops once the sun climbs effortlessly above Java's morning mist. That starts yet another day in Harrison & Gil's relentless quest to "Carve Out a Piece of History. " |
