About Miyasaka Jozo Co., Ltd. was founded in 1662. It all began with the twelfth head of the Miyasaka family, Ihei Arimasa Miyasaka, who started a sake brewery at the city of Kamisuwa, Nagano, Japan (Nagano prefecture held the 1998 Winter Olympics). The next 300 years were spent perfecting the refined sake "Masumi," which still is a highly regarded sake for its distinct aroma, body, and rich flavor. One of the secrets for its popularity lies in the company's successful development of a special high-quality yeast, which has been the source for a distinctive and prestigious sake.
In 1916, the company put its experience of making Masumi to the production of miso; both undergo a fermentation process. The result was a product well known today as Shinshu-ichi Miso, featuring the Miko-chan trademark. In 1968, the latest technological advances were introduced and successfully applied to the development of our freeze-dried products. By considering what we eat from varying perspectives, our company has evolved to develop not only miso, but a popular range of new food products.
