About OJSC Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange is established in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Commodity Exchanges" by Decree of the Council of Ministers dated No. 1719 dated December, 30 2003 and is the only commodity exchange in the Republic of Belarus. The state share of authorized capital stock exceeds 98% .

The first exchange auction (timber for export) was held on June 2, 2005. At the moment exchange auctions are carried out in three major commodity departments: import of metal production, export of timber (roundwood, sawn timber, plywood, particle boards, fiber boards, matches) and agricultural production (cheese, non-fat dried milk, butter, rapeseed oil, rye flour, technical (industrial) casein) . Full list of commodities that are allowed for exchange trade contains more than 200 items. Exchange auctions are conducted electronically. Participation in the auctions is provided in the Exchange trading halls as well as from remote workplaces using internet.

In 2008 the Exchange plans a development of branch network that unites the central office and five subsidiaries (2 of them are in operation) . The Exchange also plans to organize branches in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Germany.

At the moment more than 4000 trade participants and clients of exchange brokers are registered at the Exchange. 730 non-residents from 40 countries take active part in the auctions. Exchange turnover in 2007 amounted 1. 35 billion USD.

Exchange trade participants are given the opportunity to conclude spot and forward transactions with available commodities.
