About INTRODUCTION: The Karachi Deaf Welfare Association (KDWA) was established as an NGO in 1987 by few dynamic deaf youths, and was renamed Pakistan Association of the Deaf (PAD) in 1998. PAD is a member of World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and responsible to represent Pakistani deaf community nationally and internationally. The Association has a Managing Committee of 19 members, all of whom are deaf. The president is Mr. Irfan Mumtaz and General Secretary is Mr. Mansoor Majeed for the term of 2004-2006. The association has over 400 members from Karachi. Many other association of the deaf from all around the Pakistan are affiliated with PAD and each affiliated organization has 100s of their own members.
THE PURPOSE: The purpose of the Association is to look after the welfare of the deaf, by promoting special education, Sign Language (the language of the deaf) , I. T. Skills, vocational training, job placement, and recreational facilities. PAD also working in the field of poverty and inequality and promoting equal opportunities and right base society.
REGISTRATION: Pakistan Association of the Deaf (PAD) was registered under Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance of 1961, on 2nd July, 1998. (KDWA registered in 1987) . . .
