About Pro-Mark Company Facts

Founded in 1957 by Herb Brochstein; drum teacher and drum shop owner.

First to introduce Japanese Shira Kashi white oak into the American market, and the only company to successfully market oak sticks in the United States, although others have tried.

Pro-Mark received its first "official" endorsement, unsolicited, from Billy Gladstone, a legendary drummer and drum designer / builder.

As a drum shop owner, Herb sold a drumset (which later became very famous itself) to Elvis Presley. Elvis paid cash! That drumset was featured in several Elvis movies ("Jailhouse Rock" and more) numerous television shows (including Elvis' infamous appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show) , international magazines, and dozens of recordings.

Pro-Mark products are exported to over 100 countries, and can be found in virtually every music store in the world.

Our Houston factory is a 30, 000 square foot facility containing state-of-the-art machinery. There is room for an additional 60, 000 square feet of expansion.

Pro-Mark uses only unendangered wood in the manufacturing of its sticks and mallets. The harvesting of oak from Japan is carefully controlled, and replenishment of the forest is one of our top concerns. Each tree is between 60-120 years old before it is cut. American hickory and maple both grow faster than they are harvested, so there is no danger of running out.
