About A century-old history marked by determined and proud men. A family and four generations. All determined to make pasta. High quality pasta.
It all began in 1898, when Emanuele Bragagnolo had the brilliant idea of setting up a small pasta factory. More than a century has passed since then, a century that has seen events take place, investments, modernizations, extensions, new factories and the development of a company that is still linked to the same line of the family.
The first leap in quality came in 1918 when Emanuele’s son, Umberto Bragagnolo, converted his father’s company from a small factory to an industrial reality.
Twelve years later, the Pastificio Elettrico Bragagnolo moved its head office from Villarazzo to Castelfranco Veneto. A new factory together with increasingly ambitious objectives. Over the next few years the number of employees increased as well as the machinery and the production rate. At the same time a second factory was built in Dalmatia, in Zara, which belonged to Italy at that time. However, by the end of the second world war, Tito had come to power and the factory was seized by his regime. Umberto Bragagnolo was forced to leave, taking with him painful memories.
During the post-war period, the Bragagnolo family gave new impulse to an expanding business. In 1950 the factory in Castelfranco Veneto was extended.
In 1958 Franco Bragagnolo was the first to come to an important realization. He began exporting the product, sensing that the consumption of pasta outside Italy was destined to rise sharply. This far-sighted business intuition was right on the mark. The new market channels gave a decisive boost to the company’s escalation, so much so that in 1966 a new factory had to be built in order to handle commercial commitments.
As a result, the business was moved from Castelfranco Veneto to Riese Pio X, again in the province of Treviso. As a reminder of the experience in Zara that had remained in the heart of the Bragagnolo family, the company changed its name from Pastificio Bragagnolo to Pasta Zara.
From Riese Pio X Pasta Zara set off to conquer the world. Two extensions to the building (in 1987 and 1991) were the clear demonstrations of a continuous and unstoppable development. The fourth generation of the Bragagnolo family (the chairman Furio, with his brother Umberto and his sisters Arianna and Franca) have not fallen short of the family mission. They have led the company towards prestigious goals, grasping the situation with the entrepreneurial skill of those having an exemplary story behind them and an Italian product in front of them to be made known and appreciated throughout the world.
2002 marked yet another turn for the business. A second factory was opened known as Pasta Zara 2, in Muggia, on the outskirts of Trieste. A new production unit designed and built in two years that operates alongside the original factory in Riese Pio X. An additional production capacity that enables the company to reach new targets and to look towards the future with the winning spirit that it has always had.
